A few highlights:
This is a highly-coveted, official NYU Abu Dhabi baseball cap that has been enhanced with a specially-embroidered "I'm an FOJ!" statement designating the owner of an authentic FOJ Hat as (i) an FOJ, i.e., a friend of the inimitable John Sexton, Ph.D., J.D., President Emeritus, New York University, (ii) an ambassador of NYU Abu Dhabi and the UAE, and (iii) a member of an esteemed, eclectic & global network of FOJs.
See the Photo Gallery below to get a better sense of the FOJs and read the incredible reviews.
The initial step is to take the FOJ Quiz.
But understand that a perfect score does not automatically qualify for an FOJ Hat.
A perfect score may actually work against you.

Do your best and leave things to the FOJ Hat Qualification Committee.
The Role of the FOJ Qualification Committee
The all-important step for each application is securing the approval by the FOJ Hat Qualification Committee, which does NOT include John himself. For security reasons, membership on the FOJ Hat Qualification Committee is confidential and rotates on a regular basis. In fact, some members don't even know that are on the committee until they absolutely need to be informed.
Lobbying potential committee members is useless.
If your application is rejected, you may or may not be informed.
If you are informed of a rejection, there are no rules for appeal.
You are welcome to undertake an appeal using any measures you believe will be effective.
If you are deemed worthy of an FOJ Hat, you will receive it in the mail.
The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God have mercy upon him), the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, was born in 1918 in Al Ain City, the largest conurbation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at that time. He was the youngest son of his father, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, who ruled the Emirate from 1922-1926, and was named after his grandfather Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, who ruled the Emirate from 1855 to 1909.
As a child, the late Sheikh Zayed received his education from the local traditional teacher (the Mutawwaa), which included memorizing the Quran and learning the fundamentals of Islam. Growing up in Al Ain City with its harsh desert surroundings had a clear impact on his character. He became renowned for his patience, forward-looking vision and wisdom, later earning him the moniker “the wise man of the Arabs”.

NYU's agreement with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to create NYU Abu Dhabi is the outcome of a shared understanding of the essential roles and challenges of higher education in the 21st century: a common belief in the value of a liberal arts education, concurrence on the benefits a research university brings to the society that sustains it, a conviction that interaction with new ideas and people who are different is valuable and necessary, and a commitment to educating students who are true citizens of the world.
